Walden athletes are active, committed, and engaged. Athletic participation is an extension of the Walden experience - student athletes at every level are challenged both mentally and physically in the attainment of personal and team goals, the development of teamwork and camaraderie, and the pursuit of excellence.

MiSSION STATEMENT

In partnership with parents and coaches, the Walden Athletic Department seeks to develop and reinforce the core values of Walden Athletics - leadership, integrity, respect and commitment - in each student-athlete, so that they not only have a healthy relationship with physical activity, but also internalize those values to become strong members of the Walden community.

8th Grader Natalie Svidal, Amelia’s sister, won the Middle School State Championship in the triple jump (33-3.50) on May 28 and competed alongside the top High School athletes in the state meet Thursday. She finished 3rd in the triple jump (34-0.50) and 5th in the 100 hurdles (16.99).

2021 KHSAA CLASS 1A STATE TRACK MEET

In June 2021, members of the Walden Track and Field team competed in the KHSAA Class 1A State Track Meet, at the University of Kentucky Track and Field Complex, in Lexington. Walden had six athletes qualify for events at the state meet and their finishes are among the best ever for Walden athletes. We are extremely proud of our athletes and for the hard work they have put in all season!

ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE:

• High Jump - 3rd place

• Long Jump - 7th and 13th place

• Triple Jump - 5th and 17th place

• Discus - Region Champion and 3rd in State

• Youngest Qualifier - 7th Grade competitor in the Triple Jump, earning 14th place

CLASS OF 2021 - FOUR DIVISION 1 ATHLETES

A big congrats to our 2021 graduates who will go on to participate in Division I athletics at the University of Louisville and Bellarmine University: Gianna Gatti-Vice (rowing at UofL), Van Clements, Peter Dalmares, and Luke Wunsch (cross country and track/field at Bellarmine). Go Wolverines!

ALL-REGION TEAM - BOWLING

Congratulations to 10th Grader Landon Brown for making the All-Region Team for Region 4 in bowling! Landon will represent Walden in the All-Region Tournament to compete against all other regions of Kentucky. This is Walden's first athlete to be nominated for All-Region in bowling! Team members are voted on by all Region 4 coaches (except their own) and are selected for their impressive bowling, sportsmanship, coachability, and being an all-round, good team player.

2023 KHSAA CLASS A STATE TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Walden Girls track team won a trophy and placed 4th overall at the KHSAA Class A State Track and Field Championships on June 1, 2023. Sisters Amelia and Natalie Svidal led the day; they went 1-2 in the triple jump and 2-3 in the long jump. Natalie finished 2nd in 100-meter hurdles and Amelia placed 4th.

Support the Wolverines!

THE BOOSTER CLUB is a non-profit volunteer organization comprised of parents, staff, and other interested parties. Our mission, through fundraising, is to enrich and promote the athletic programs at Walden School.

In addition, we strive to promote good sportsmanship, high ideals of character, and academic achievement in all our team players.

Results vs. Development

Walden athletics has a unique focus in results and developmental growth for each academic division. The graphics below illustrate the percentage of focus that coaches strive to emphasize and obtain a goal for in both training and competition.
