Welcome to the Parents page!

This page is being created to give parents a place to find information about Walden that they may not be able to find elsewhere. Any suggestions that you have for this page are welcome. Please send them to Decoware@aol.com.

Volunteer Position Descriptions:

Monster Mash
The Monster Mash is a Halloween party that is sponsored by the WPTA and is held one evening in October in the all-purpose room. It is a dance for all Walden students that allows them to wear their costumes and have fun with their classmates.

A chairperson and a co-chairperson are needed to organize this event. Duties include: planning the refreshments and decorations, organizing volunteers and getting the information to the families.

Several people are needed to help with decorations before the event, serve refreshments during the mash, and clean up after the party.

Skating Party
A skating party is held for Walden students in the winter at Champs.

A Chairperson is needed to set a date, send the information out to the families and pay for the event.

School Rebate Opportunities
Several companies will pay the school a percentage of any purchases made by Walden families.

A person is needed to organize these “rebate” offers and get the information to the parents.

Innisbrook
Innisbrook is a fundraising company that provides high-quality gift items and gift wrap for the students to sell. The sale takes place at the end of September, and the items are distributed before the holiday season. The school receives 50% of the profits.

Beth Ratliff and Molly Jones are organizing this fundraiser. They need several people to help prepare the orders, which will require an afternoon. And, they need several people to help organize the orders for delivery. This would take only a couple of hours.

Market Day
Market Day is a fundraiser that goes on throughout the school year. Parents and friends can purchase restaurant quality foods from this program, and a percentage of the sales is returned to the school.

Each month a detailed order form is sent home in the Monday folder. There are three simple ways that you can place an order. Fill out the form and put it in the Market Day mailbox at the school; phone in your order using the phone numbers listed on the back of the form; or, you can place your order on the internet. The pick up date and time is also listed on the back of the Market Day order form. On that day, stop by the school’s cafeteria during the specified time to get your items.

Cathy Wells at 254-3003 will be glad to answer any questions that you may have about Market Day.

Parents are needed to make phone calls the night before pick up day to remind each family of their order. These calls can be made from home. The amount of time required depends on the number of people who volunteer for this position.

Help is needed for approximately 3 hours each month on pick up day. The food arrives at the school and must be promptly unloaded and organized for distribution.

Faculty & Staff Luncheons
Three luncheons are given to show appreciation to the teachers and staff throughout the school year.

The Holiday Luncheon usually takes place the first week of December.

The Teacher Appreciation luncheon is held in the spring.

The End of School luncheon is given at the completion of the school year.

A chairperson and co-chairperson are needed for each of these luncheons. The duties for these positions include hiring a caterer, coordinating the volunteers and planning the decorations. This would require only a couple of hours to complete.

School Tour Guide
Walden holds open houses for prospective families twice a year. This year they will be on November 2nd and February 8th from 2-4 pm. At these open houses, families can see the facilities and talk to the faculty, staff, and parents.

Each prospective family is assigned a guide to walk them through the school and answer any questions that they might have. Parents from lower, middle and upper schools are needed for this task.

Book Fair
The Book Fair is held twice a year in the library. Books can be purchased at the fair and a portion of the sales is given to the school.

Donna Sewell, the school’s librarian, will assign duties as needed.

Renaissance Faire
Under the guidance of Michael Shell, the high school drama teacher, the Renaissance Faire teaches the children and their families about life in medieval times. The faire lasts for approximately 3 to 4 hours and is on a 3 year rotation.

Some assistance is needed prior to the faire with painting or preparing booths or some other hands-on tasks.

Parents are also needed to help set up and take down the booths.

Gardening
A Chairperson is needed to maintain the gardening needs of the school. This would be a job that would encompass the entire school year. Duties would include planning, organizing volunteers, planting and clean up.

Volunteers are also needed to assist with gardening tasks.

Holiday Decoration
A person or persons is needed to help maintain the seasonal decorations around the school--primarily around the front door area (wreaths), but other ideas will be welcomed, as well.

Classroom Volunteers
Parents are needed for each grade level to assist the teachers with various tasks in the classrooms.

Auction Opportunities
The Walden auction is the school’s largest fundraiser. Mark your calendars for the evening of March 6th, 2004, because this is THE event of the year! Please notice that we have a new location for the auction. It will be held at The Olmstead on Frankfort Avenue. You won’t want to miss this one.

The auction is such a large production, that it requires several committees.  Click here to read more!
