About Walden

Walden School includes three academic divisions: Lower School (K-4), Middle School (5-8), and High School (9-12). Walden maintains a student-teacher ration of 7-1 to maximize individualized attention. Walden School is governed by a Board of Trustees composed of parents, alumni and community representatives. Ms. Linda Van Houten has served as the Head of School since 1993.

Beginning in the 9th grade, Walden students benefit from a uniquely personal college counseling program that emphasizes the importance of matching the student’s interests and goals to the appropriate college or university environment. Walden graduates have a 100% college placement rate – most often in the college of first choice - along with a strong history of scholarship attainment.

Character education is emphasized in all classes. Students in all grades have the opportunity to participate in community service projects.

Walden is proud of its student diversity – on average 18% -- that helps prepare students to live in a diverse and changing world.

Walden School provides athletic activities beginning in Kindergarten, with competitive teams in Middle School and High School for cross country, basketball, volleyball, track and field, and dance. High School students can also participate in a variety of intramural sports. Other extra-curricular activities include Chess Club, Math Club, Computer Club, Academic Team, and Scouting programs.

Parents are considered partners in fostering academic excellence by Walden, and the school offers many opportunities for their participation.
