Like all other independent schools, Walden receives funding through tuition, charitable contributions, fundraising events, and earned interest from endowment funds. Independent schools rely on these fundraising methods because tuition alone only covers about 80-85% of actual costs. Founded in 1975, Walden School is proud of its heritage. It thrives today because of the generosity of its parents, alumni, grandparents and friends who sustained and nurtured its growth. The school’s overall success is a result of parental involvement. Walden is unique among independent schools in that many of our students come from families where there is no history of attendance at an independent or “private” school. They selected Walden, not because of family tradition or for prestige, but because they wanted the best possible educational environment for their child. To help families considering Walden School understand how fundraising benefits the students, our own parents developed a graphic representation called the Giving Tree.
