This week in Math we will be learning about Angles, Triangles Quadrangles, Parallelograms, Polygons and how to use a compass to construct circles. This unit is very challenging for most 4th graders because they have forgotten the terminology over the summer and it’s not working with numbers. They are taking notes in their notebook so if they review their notes this should help.
This week our spelling test will be on Thursday. We are not able to use the laptop cart Friday so we will be taking our test during Computer time and then working on keyboarding skills. Last week logging on to the laptops took some time and we did not finish the test. We feel one more week of modeling with the Smartboard would be beneficial. Our Spelling Unit this week is Chapter Two. Words can be found in your child’s spelling book or on Spellingcity.com link posted to our web pages.
In Writing we will be learning about Persuasive Writing and techniques. We are starting off with fact & opinion, understanding other points of view, and transitional words and phrases. We are tying Literature in with Writing and read the book Earrings! By Judith Viorst. In Reading we are working on the story “The Mystery of the Missing Lunch”. We will be working on Reading Comprehension and                             Problem & Solution skills.
We will be working on a very fun project in Social Studies this week. We have just started our Kentucky book and learning about Kentucky symbols and attractions. We will continue this while making our own Tourism Posters to attract people to come visit Kentucky.
