Admissions
Walden School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, national or ethnic origin in admissions, in the administration of its educational policies, financial aid programs, athletics or other school-administered programs.

Families seeking admission for their child to Walden School must complete an Application for Admission, submit any previous school records, and participate in an admission evaluation. The primary consideration for admissions is a determination that the student can benefit from and successfully complete our program of studies.

We encourage parents to visit Walden by appointment and then to schedule the prospective student for a "shadow" visit – a day at Walden, attending classes and participating with current students. Evaluations can take place during visits or by other arrangements.

A $50.00 application fee is also required on the day of evaluation.

ADMISSIONS POLICY
Walden seeks students of average to above average ability who can contribute to and benefit from its college-preparatory program. Students are selected for admission to the school on the basis of academic potential, developmental maturity, school achievement, and readiness for the school’s program. Where appropriate, testing is used as a tool to provide information to assist in the assessment of each candidate. The admissions committee makes recommendations whether or not to admit or re-enroll a student. Typically those decisions are based on multiple criteria:

Students:
  • Are of average to above average ability
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work hard
  • Are college-bound and motivated to achieve that goal
  • Appreciate and respect diversity in classmates
  • Possess a potential for success and respond well to personal attention from teachers
  • Are respectful and demonstrate sensitivity to others
  • Thrive in an environment where the ability to make good choices is important
When Walden cannot offer a place to a child, we are pleased to offer counsel on other schools that may be able to accommodate the student. When there are more qualified candidates than openings available, the school establishes a waiting list: if any openings occur, the admissions committee decides which candidate(s) to offer a position based on the overall profile of class and the match between the needs and qualifications of the student with the needs of the school.

It is the policy of Walden not to discriminate on the basis of race, sex, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, or disability, which is unrelated to the ability to enjoy the benefits of the school’s programs, facilities, or services. All persons are encouraged to apply.
