The Walden Lower School academic program employs a developmental approach to learning. Each child learns best when exposed to knowledge appropriate for his or her individual development, and learning occurs best in an atmosphere that is both exciting and enjoyable. The Lower School experience impacts the student's lifelong approach to learning. Walden Lower School students experience a varied curriculum. Music, art, foreign language, computer, science and physical education complement the classroom basics of language arts, math and social studies. Lower School students are encouraged to participate in school-wide activities that foster a sense of belonging. Walden is very proud of the relationship between the High School and the Lower School students. Every lower school student has a big "brother or sister" in the High School who helps bridge the gap in age. Smaller classes provide the perfect environment for each child's intellectual growth. Current research supports the idea that a child whose class size is smaller during the early years excels beyond other children in academic achievement. Walden's Lower School prepares children for the future in both education and life.
